Healthy
Choices are classes offered at Warren County Middle School,
Warren County Junior High School, Warren County High School, and the Alternative Program.
This program is school-based and includes motivational activities,
social skills training, and decision-making components that are
delivered through group discussions, games, role-playing exercises,
videos, and student worksheets. Life skills groups are designed to
provide a balance between skill development and group discussion to
help teens resist substance abuse.
Elementary
Classroom Presentations are presented as a collaborative effort between the
elementary school guidance counselors of Warren County Public
Schools and the WarrenCoalition. These “student centered”
workshops are implemented at the school site and vary in topic and
audience. Classroom
presentations can include Healthy Bodies/Habits (Grades K-1);
Friendship (Grades K-1); Tobacco-Smoking, and Smokeless (Grades
2-5); Bullying/Teasing (Grades 2-5); Peer Pressure/Refusal Skills
(Grades 4-5); Responsibility (Grades 4-5); and many other
topics.
The
Miles of Smiles Program is designed to provide dental health services to children
hose family situation does not allow funding for this basic health
need. The program does
not provide comprehensive dental care or orthodontic care. Addressing the proper care
of their teeth will enhance a child's sense of self worth and
confidence.
Too
Good for Violence – The Bullying Prevention/Intervention
Program is a collaborative effort
between Warren County Public
Schools and the Warren Coalition. This
focuses on the appropriate ways to direct anger and how to handle
being bullied.
College Access
Network is a program designed to
encourage students to continue with their education beyond high
school. Direction is given to each student in the areas of career
interest, college search, the admissions process, financial aid and
scholarship opportunities. Higher education has become
critical in the workplace. Our goal is to assist students in
realizing their potential and access resources to accomplish their
goals. Check out the scholarship recepients from last year.
Youth In Action
(YIA) is a partnership between adults and teams of high school students
to create an environment where underage drinking is NOT a rite of
passage. The group
works on projects with young people, law enforcement, and community
members. YIA is also a way to recognize young people doing the right
thing and provide an opportunity for leadership and fun at the same
time. The national site is www.youthinaction.org.
